Notes for New Age Enoch-Part 1
The Biblical figure of Enoch (the name means to “initiate” or “discipline”) has stirred the imaginations of researchers, writers, and believers for centuries. There are, in fact THREE Enoch figures in the scriptures: the first Enoch is a son of Cain, the second Enoch is a town named after the first (Gen 4:17). The third Enoch is a son of Jared, of the line of Seth, third son of Adam and Eve. This Enoch, who famously “walked with God,” is the seventh generation from Adam.
In 1768 James Bruce “discovered” the “lost” manuscripts of the Book of Enoch in Ethopia, the book which many believe was the source for references made to Enoch by the apostle Jude in Jude 1:14.
A cult of belief has grown up around the Book of Enoch, and has infiltrated Christian thought and belief systems. Today it is studied by sincere believers who use it to find additional understanding on prophecy, angelic revelations, UFOs, and the second coming of Christ.
Enoch has also been assimilated into the epoch of what is known as “new age” belief structures as the Enochian revelations dating from antiquity. Enoch has been embraced by the Hermetic Gnostics, Rosicrucianism, Freemasonry, Kabbalistic Judaism, and the late 20th century New Age evangelists, such as Dr. James J. Hurtak (The Book of Knowledge: The Keys of Enoch). This series exposes the fallacious origins, dubious doctrines, and outright heresies which are now being sown into the Christian consciousness by uninformed, ignorant teachers, or worse: the devil, himself.
